Can you tell me about Major Sports?
The best way to do that would be for you to click on the About Major Sports link. That will give you a comprehensive overview of Major Sports from its beginning to the 2006 season.
What are the locations of your fields throughout Long Island?
Major Sports has fields from the Queens-Nassau border all the way into Suffolk County as far east as Hauppauge and the Oakdale-Bohemia area. more comprehensive list can be viewed if you click on the link for Field Locations.
What are the conditions of the fields? Some leagues use fields that are not fit for walking across, let alone playing softball on.
Just about every field Major Sports has is either a Town, County or State field. They are all in excellent condition and maintained by the municipality they are leased from.
I hear that Major Sports maintains some of the fields, is that true?
That is correct. Last year, Major Sports purchased an infield grooming machine, the Toro Infield Pro. It is a $13,000 machine that is used by Major League Baseball teams for their infields. Many of the fields are done by Major Sports at least two to three times a week and foul lines are always put down a couple of times a week. Major Sports takes tremendous pride in the product it delivers, and making sure the fields are the best they can be has always been Job One.
What kind of leagues does Major Sports offer?
Major Sports is a men's slow-pitch-only league.

Do the batters start with a one-and-one count in Major Sports?
The 2008 season will be the first year that the count will be one-and one.
What about the different levels of competition? How is that determined? How do I know what level of play suits my team?
The three levels of play are:
1. Highly competitive (About 10% of teams are at this level)
2. Competitive (About 70% of teams are at this level)
3. Less competitive (About 20% are at this level)
Most teams have played in Major Sports, so there is a reference point for what level of play they fit into. Most new teams will fit into the competitive level. Most new managers have a good feel for the level that is suited for them.
Teams can always go down to a Spring League game and get a feel for the level they would be most comfortable in. The philosophy at Major Sports is that I do not want teams winning them all and do not want teams losing them all.
Do Major Sports teams play on Memorial Day weekend, July 4th weekend or Labor Day weekend?
No games are ever scheduled on holiday weekends.
Are umpire fees included in the league fee?
No. Umpires are paid on the field by the teams before the start of the game or between games. Each team pays $38.00 per doubleheader.
I want to know if someone is at Major Sports to answer the phone, at game time, if a problem comes up?
I am always at the phone at game time to troubleshoot any problems if they do come up. I know it is important to be by the phone if an umpire is late, or if a team member does not know the directions to a field.
What type of playoff format does Major Sports have?
In Major Sports, all teams make a playoff. Although it is a tremendous amount of work to put all the teams into a playoff, Major Sports always has since it's first year in 1992.
There are two different brackets in the playoffs. The teams that finish on top of their division, usually the top 2 teams or the top 4 teams, depending on the particular division, go into a double elimination Tournament of Champions. All other teams go into a single elimination Consolation Tournament. This way, teams that are not having a good year can look forward to a playoff.
How many players do you need to avoid a forfeit?
You can play a game with 8 players. Any less than 8 and your team has to forfeit.
Are team uniforms required?
The evolution of softball has dictated that teams have gotten away from full uniforms. Most teams usually have matching team shirts. However, there is no uniform code in Major Sports.
If I have any questions about the rules that Major Sports uses in its softball league, where can I get a copy of the rule book?
You can get them on line by clicking on the League Rules link, or we will mail you a hard copy on request.
How do I sign a team up with Major Sports?
You can do it on line or if you prefer, I can send you out an information kit with all the information you will need.
